How To Choose Furniture for Your Restaurant

May 9, 2018

As a restaurant owner, constant decision-making can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming. From location scouting, menu development, staff hiring and advertisement – the “sweet spot” for your restaurant’s success will rely on a variety of flavours.

When it comes to furnishing, finding an approach that will highlight the wonderful and unique characteristics of your business can be a task of its own. However, the following guide will show you that THEME, FUNCTIONAL COMFORT & CONVENIENCE are all you need to worry about while discovering the ideal options for your brand:

THEME:

When in the market for restaurant furniture, consider the type of “feeling” you are trying to evoke. Once the desired theme is identified, you will be able to choose furniture options that best reflect the atmosphere and experience that you are going for.

For example, what visuals and emotions come to mind when considering the following styles:

– Modern
– Fast Food
– Casual & Comfortable
– Rustic Industrial
– Elegant Fine Dining

Chances are that your visualizations of each style are quite different from one another. From smooth and sophisticated to modern and fun – there are endless combinations to choose from!

FUNCTIONAL COMFORT:

Although design and theme are vital components to restaurant furnishing – functionality and comfort are equally as important. In fact, not all tables are chairs are created for professional use! Residential quality furniture will often fail the test of durability in a commercial environment. If buying metal furniture, opt for fully welded material whenever possible. The warranty options provided for commercial furniture will also outweigh the warranties provided for residential options. Although it may be tempting to go for the cheaper solutions – prioritizing solid, long-lasting furniture will ensure comfort and durability for your patrons.

If your restaurant’s floorplan has the space available, consider creating several different seating areas in your restaurant to appeal to a variety of dining styles. For example, a designated lounge or bar area will offer the ideal seating space for those either waiting for their tables, or just looking to stop in for a drink. Providing a variety of table sizes and/or booth areas will also appeal to couples who might be looking for a more intimate space to enjoy their meal, or perhaps the space to accommodate larger groups together. For restaurants that encourage a longer dining experience, seating comfort will also make a world of a difference to your prospective customers.

CONVENIENCE:

Planning your layout in advance will definitely help you work WITH your space instead of against it. Draw up a floor plan of your restaurant to help plot and organize the layout before the shopping begins. Planning for high traffic areas will help you leave enough space for your staff and customers to move around with ease and comfort. A few critical areas to accommodate include the entrance space, between the tables, around the ba, and the space between the kitchen and dining area.

Planning and budgeting may take some time, but doing so will ensure that your furnishing process is as exciting, effective and cost efficient as possible.

Happy Planning!
